Critical Time Intervention

I offer comprehensive, skill-intensive training for providers who are new to the CTI model or are interested in a refresher. The participants are trained to confidently implement the critical time intervention model in their programs with a complete set of service documents tailored according to their organizational requirements.

The Course Includes:

• history and background of CTI and research establishing it as an evidence-based practice
• the foundational principles and value base
• thorough explanation of phases, timing, tasks, potential obstacles, and solutions
• the significance of good supervision, team supervision and documentation
• evaluation process including fidelity review and suggestions for measuring long term outcomes

This live online course is 3 hours per session for three days (usually one day per week) with the structure made flexible to accommodate your organization’s needs. The content is presented or delivered through PowerPoint presentations, break-out group discussions, and case analysis with time reserved for questions and answers. Scheduled pre-training meetings will ensured that training and documentation are customized for your organization. Two post-training consultations to assist with implementation planning are included in the training fee.

Critical Time Intervention: Train the Trainer

This is an advanced course designed for providers already trained in the basic CTI model. Large organizations who wish for their own in-house trainers or who experience rapid staff turnover would benefit from CTI Train the Trainer. The participants will be equipped with tools, strategies and exercises for use in training new staff. Material includes advanced content on:

• The basic aims, principles, and values of the CTI Model
• The purpose and tasks associated with each phase
• Methods for identifying focus areas in CTI
• Method of creating effective linkages between participants and resources
• Ways to indentify barriers for each participant and produce strategies to reduce them
• Program evaluation techniques

This course is 3 hours each session over 3 days with the structure made flexible to accommodate your needs. The content is presented or delivered through PowerPoint presentations, break-out group discussions, and role-plays, with time reserved for questions and answers. Pre-training meetings ensure that training and documentation are individualized for your organization. Two post-training consultations to assist with implementation are included in the training fee.

Critical Time Intervention: The Fidelity Review

Critical Time Intervention is backed by rigorous research and therefore appealing to organizations seeking to improve and measure their outcomes. In order to ensure the best outcomes, CTI programs must first has to undergo a fidelity review that measures the extent to which providers adhere to the CTI model in practice. In an ideal situation, organizations should conduct a fidelity review once the number of set clients has passed through all the phases of their CTI intervention.

The training offers participants:

• The technique and measurement strategies for fidelity review
• Documents for gathering and analyzing data
• Explanation about the use of fidelity scale created by researchers at the Center for the Advancement of Critical Time Intervention at CUNY/Hunter College Silberman School of Social Work.
• Instructions on the writing of a narrative report

An intervention’s success depends on the relationship between worker and client. Through this course, providers are taught to establish a strong working alliance with their clients based on the virtues of respect, empathy, and trust. Participants emerge from the training with confidence in their ability to:

• Engage with a client when offering services
• Handling difficult conversations with sensitivity, timing, and respect
• Respond to clients with empathy and develop a trusting relationship
• Strengthe and ensure consistent communication with clients
